Isaac Barwis of Langrigg, Bromfield; proved, 1778
"I Isaac Barwis of Langrigg in the parish of Bromfield in the County of Cumberland, yeoman, being in good health and of sound and perfect mind and memory, thanks be to almighty God, but calling to mind the uncertainty of life, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say:
First, my will is that all my debts and funeral expenses be fully paid and discharged and that all my real and personal estate shall be subject and charged with the same, I give and divise unto my cousin Isaac Barwis of Longthwaite in the parish of Wigton in the County of Cumberland and to his heirs and assigns forever, all my freehold estate, messuage, lands, tenements and hereditements whatosoever situate lying or being within the said parish of Bromfield, he paying thereout unto my beloved wife Margaret Barwis an annuity or sum of five pounds of lawful money of Great Britain, yearly, the first payment to be and be made at the end of half a year next after my decease, and he also finding or making up about the said messuage a dwelling house sufficient for my said wife to live in during her life.
And my will is that the said annuity and house shall be in lieu and full satisfaction of my said wife’s dower out of all the said premises above mentioned, and not payable otherwise.
And if the said Isaac Barwis (my cousin) or his heirs shall neglect and refuse to pay the said annuity and make or find a house as aforesaid, then I do give and devise a moiety of all the said premises unto my wife during her natural life.
I give and bequeath unto my cousin Dinah Moor of Overgates the sum of ten pounds to be paid her by my said cousin Isaac Barwise out of the freehold premises above mentioned at the end of one year next after my decease.
And if my said cousin Isaac Barwis shall neglect and refuse to pay the said legacy of ten pounds then I do give and devise the other moiety of the said freehold premises unto my said cousin Dinah Moor until the said legacy be paid by the said Isaac Barwis (my cousin) or his heirs;
All the rest of my estate whatsoever both real and personal I do give and bequeath unto my said wife Margaret and cousin Barwis and do make and appoint them joint executors of this my last will and testament revoking all other wills by me formerly made and declaring this only to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelfth day of October in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred and sixty-two.

Signed sealed and published by the testator to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who subscribed our names in his presence and in presence of each other – John Nicolson, Stephen Harrison and John Harrison.
Codicil:
I Isaac Barwis the testator above mentioned do make and publish this codicil to my last will and testament within and above written, and to be taken as part and parcel of the same. To wit, I do hereby revoke annul and make void the legacy of ten pounds given in and by my said last will to Dinah Moor of Overgates.
And my will is that my wife shall have no part of the residue of my real and personal estate or of the executorship but that my cousin Isaac Barwis shall have all the said residue and be sole executor of my said last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this tenth day of February in the year one thousand seven hundred and sixty-seven.
