Janet Barwis of the Parish of Holm Cultram; proved, 1616
"In the name of God Amen. The 31st day of December 1616. Janet Barwis of Edderside in the parish of Holm Cultram widow sick in body but of perfect remembrance praised be God did ordain and set forth this her last will and testament in manner and form following.
First and principally she gave her soul unto almighty God her only saviour and redeemer and her body to be buried within the parish churchyard of Holm aforesaid.
Item: she gave and bequeathed unto John Ritson three bushels of bigg, three bushels of oats and 20s of money.
Item: she gave unto William Auston 20s, to Thomas Langcake 14s, to Thomas Syme son of John Syme 20s, to John Shaw 20s.
Item: she gave unto the said Thomas Syme & John Shaw all the rye unthreshed.
Item: she gave unto Anthony Waite 20s, to Robert Sibson 12s.
The rest of all her goods and chattels moveable and unmoveable her debts legalised and her funeral expenses discharged she gave and bequeathed unto John Ritson, John Waite, Thomas Langcake and William Auston who she made and * her sole executors.
