Jonathan Barwis of Langrigg, Bromfield; proved, 1770
In the name of God Amen. I Jonathan Barwis of Langrigg in the parish of Bromfield and County of Cumberland yeoman, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say:
First I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph Barwis one shilling
I do also give and bequeath to my daughter Rachel Rawling two shillings and sixpence
Lastly as to all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate goods and chattels of what kind or nature soever I give and bequeath to my dear and loving wife Mary Barwis whom I hereby appoint sole executrice of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made at any time.
In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal the twentieth day of November one thousand seven hundred and forty three.
