John Barwis of Nook, Holm Cultram; proved, 1769

"In the name of God Amen. John Barwis of Nook in the parish of Abbey Holm & County of Cumberland being sick & weak in body, but of sound mind and memory (praised be God) do make and ordain this my last will and testament (thereby revoking all former wills by me made) in form & manner

First I give and bequeath to my grandson John Barwis of Whitehaven the sum of ten pounds to be paid when he is at years & capable to give a release for the same

Secondly I give & bequeath to my grandson Jeremiah Barwis of Whitehaven the like sum of ten pounds to be paid when he is 21 years of age.

I also give and bequeath to my granddaughter Jane Barwis of Whitehaven the sum of ten pounds to be paid when she arrives at twenty-one years of age

All the rest & residue of my goods and chattels whatsoever I give and bequeath to my son Jeremiah Barwis & I do make & appoint him the sole executor of this my last will and testament discharging my debts and defraying my funeral expenses. In witness whereof I have herewith set my hand and seal this seventh day of February in the year of our Lord 1764
