Mary Barwis of Langrigg, Bromfield, proved, 31st May 1826

"In the name of God Amen. I Mary Barwise wife of John Barwise Senr. of Langrigg in the parish of Bromfield in the County of Cumberland Whereas by agreement made between the said John Barwise Senr. myself by the name and addition of Mary Pattinson and others before our marriage, and whereas the said agreement vested in me full power to dispose of two hundred pounds my chest of draws and other furniture as I should think proper relation to the said agreement, it will had been more fully appear (sic) first I give and bequeath to my Granddaughter Barbara Barwise alias Watson, my chest of drawers, and six silver teaspoons and tongs, and also a feather bed and bedstead and clothes to furnish the same therewith. I also give and bequeath to my Niece Mary Richardson, wife of William Richardson, the sum of twenty pounds. As my husband are living so the above legacies are not to be paid until the expiration of one year after both our deaths. All the residue and remainder of my personal estate I give and bequeath unto my above named granddaughter Barbara Barwise, alias Watson, and nominate and appoint her Executrix of this my last will and testament, she paying all the above legacies and funeral expenses. Hereby revoking all other and sometime (?) and wills by me heretofore made. In writings whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixteenth day of February one thousand and eight hundred twenty-two. Mary Barwise my mark (X). Signed sealed published and declared by the above named Mary Barwise as her last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses hereunto in the presence of the Testatrix and in the presence of each other Margaret Barnes, John Saul Junr.
