"In the name of God Amen. The year of our Lord 1563, the 6th day of December.
I Richard Barwis of the parish of Bromfield sound of memory but sick in body and fearing the pull of death doth ordain and set forth my testament or last will in manner & form following.
First and principally I give my soul to almighty God & my body to be buried in the churchyard of the parish aforesaid.
Item: I give to my wife and to my youngest children the interest which I have in the * * for the years.
The residue of all my goods, my debts paid and my funeral expenses discharged, I give to my wife Jane and to my children, John, Mungo, Robert, William, Cuthbert and Janet, whom I institute and make my true and lawful executors.
Item: I will the said children and their goods be in the * and governance of my wife so long as they will be ruled by her.
