"In the name of God, Amen. I Richard Barwis of Edderside in the parish of Holm Cultram & county of Cumberland yeoman, resigning my soul into the hands of almighty God and considering the frailty and uncertainty of this life and being of sound and disposing mind & memory do make publish and declare this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other and former wills at any time heretofore made
First I will that my debts and funeral expenses be first paid and discharged
Likewise I give unto my son John Barwis ten shillings and all my share of husbandry gear
And to four of his children Richard Barwis, John Barwis, Ann Barwis and Elizabeth Barwis I give two shillings and sixpence each of them
And to Mary Barwis my granddaughter I give the sum of twenty pounds
Likewise I give unto my son Joseph Barwis my share being (a two and thirtieth) part of a ship called Betty of Whitehaven
Likewise I give unto my daughter Ann Rigg the sum of twenty pounds and to each of her sons Joseph Rigg and Richard Rigg I give each two shillings and sixpence
And all the rest of my personal estate goods and chattels I do give & bequeath unto Elizabeth Barwis my loving wife who I make and appoint full and sole executrix of this my last will and testament as witness my hand the nineteenth day of December in the year of our Lord 1751
