"In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Barwis of Halls in the parish of Bassenthwaite & County of Cumberland being in good health of body and of sound & perfect mind & memory praise be therefore given to Almighty God do make & ordain this my present last will & testament in manner and form following (that is to say):
First & principally I commend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God hoping through the merits & mediation of Jesus Christ my saviour to have full and absolute pardon and full forgiveness of all my sins and to inherit eternal life, and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named and as touching the disposition of all such temporal estate as it hath pleased almighty God of his mercy and goodness to bestow upon me I will give and dispose thereof as followeth:
First I will that my debts and funeral charges shall be fully paid and discharged
Item: I give and bequeath unto Thomas Barwis of Cooper one shilling
Item: I give and bequeath unto Thomas Barwis of Cooper one shilling (sic)
Item: I give and bequeath unto William Barwis of Aspatria one shilling
Item: I give and bequeath unto Richard Barwis of Etherside the sum of ten pounds of current money of Great Britain
Item: I leave and bequeath unto Robert Barwis of Langrigg one shilling
Item: I leave and bequeath unto Jonathan Barwis of Langrigg one shilling
Item: I leave and bequeath unto Barwis (sic) of Langrigg one shilling
Item: I leave and bequeath unto Mary Wilson, daughter of Mary Wilson of Bassenthwaite Halls the sum of forty pounds of current money of England
Item: I give and bequeath unto James Wilson of Halls the legal sum of ten pounds
Item: I give and bequeath unto Thomas Wilson of Halls the sum of five pounds
Item: I give and bequeath unto Joseph Wilson of Halls the sum of ten pounds
Item: I give and bequeath unto Robert Wilson of Halls the sum of five pounds
All the rest of my goods and chattels moveable and immoveable or in any wise to me appertaining I give and dispose of to Mary Wilson of Bassenthwaite Halls whom I do appoint make and ordain my sole & absolute executrix of this my last will and testament. And I do hereby revoke disown and make void all former wills and testaments by me heretofore made.
In witness whereof I the said Thomas Barwis the testator to this my last will & testament being contained in one sheet of paper have of my own accord set to my hand & seal the eleventh day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & forty-two or three.
