Thomas Barwise of Langrigg, Bromfield; proved 28th January 1664

"In the name of God, Amen. The twenty-ninth day of March 1664. I, Thomas Barwise of Langrigg, being sick of body but of perfect memory, thanks be to Almighty God, and calling to remembrance the * estate of the transitory life that all flesh must yield unto death when it shall please God to call, I do make, constitute, ordain and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following, revoking and annulling by these * all and every testament and testaments, will and wills heretofore by me made and declared either by word or writing. And this is to be taken for my last will and testament now and after.

And first, being penitent from the bottom of my heart for my sins past most humbly desiring for forgiveness for the same, I give and commit my soul to Almighty Godmy saviour and redeemer, in whom and by the merits of Jesus Christ, I trust assuredly to be saved and to have full remission and forgiveness of all my sins, and that my soul with my body at the general day of resurrection shall rise again with joy, and through the merits of Christ’s death and passion, possess and inherit the kingdom of heaven prepared for his elect and chosen. And my body to be buried in suchlike * shall please my executors hereafter named to appoint.

And now * following of this my temporal estate and such goods and chattels and debts as it hath pleased God far above my desserts to bestow upon me. (That is to say)

First, I will that all those debts and duties as found in right or confidence to any manner of person or persons whatsoever, shall be well and truly contented and paid or ordained to be paid within convenient time after my decease by my executors hereafter named.

Item, I give and bequeath unto Thomas Hodgshon one docked * (looks like why)

All the rest of my goods and chattels moveable nd unmoveable I give to my son John who I make sole executor of this my last will and testament my debts and duties paid and funeral expenses discharged
