"In the name of God Amen. The 26th day of December 1615 I William Barwis sick in body but whole in mind and of perfect remembrance thanks be to God do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following.
First and most principally I give and commit my soul unto almighty God my creator and my body to be buried in the Choir of my parish church of Bromfield near to my wife.
Item: I do give unto Ellen Wies the sum of 16s which she is owing me.
Item: I give to Thomas Barwis of Whitrigg my cousin 20s.
Item: I give to William Barwis one peck of bigg.
Item: I give to William Scott one peck of bigg.
Item: I give to Nellie * one peck of bigg.
Item: I give to Hugh Mayson’s wife one peck of bigg.
Item: to Matthew Scott all my part of my * *.
Item: I leave unto my wife the third part of all my goods.
Item; my will is that although I am but a tenant of the tenement whereupon I now dwell for term of life yet at this instant with the consent of my brother Robert Barwis and his son William Barwis who hath to this my will set their hands I do give to my wife the third part of my lands now in my possession I keeping the third that she shall keep in my name.
Item: All the rest of my goods I give to my brother Robert Barwis and his son William Barwis whom I make my executors.
