In the name of God Amen, I William Barwise of Tarnriggmoor not being healthy but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to almighty God, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

That is to say; I give and bequeath my beloved wife Mary Barwise my best bedstead bed and bedding of clothes, and such of my household goods and household furniture as she shall choose sufficient to furnish herself a room to live in.

I also give and bequeath unto my said wife an annuity or yearly sum of £8 of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid her yearly and every year by my eldest son James Barwise or his heirs out of my estate within the township of Oulton in the parish of Wigton late the estate of my late brother James Barwise deceased of two equal half yearly payments in each year for and during the term of her natural life, the said payment to begin and be made at the end of half a year next after my decease and the said annuity to be in lieu and satisfaction of her dower out of all the lands which I have been seized of since our marriage.

I give and bequeath unto my sons William Barwise and Robert Barwise each the sum of £50 to be paid them also by my said son James out of the said estate at the end one year next after my decease, and if my said son James or his heirs shall neglect or refuse to pay the said annuity above mentioned to my said wife or the said legacies above mentioned to my said sons William and Robert or to any of them at such time as the same shall respectively become due and ought to be paid.

Then and in such case I do give and devise all my said estate above mentioned given and devised to me by my said late brother James unto my said wife and sons William and Robert, or to such of them whose annuity or respective legacy shall be neglected or refused payment for and during his her and their respective life or lives.

But my will is that my said wife shall not have both the above mentioned annuity and dower of my other estates.

I give and devise all my reversion and remainder of a house and parcel of land being near the West end of Oulton aforesaid expectant upon the decease of Margaret Huntington single woman and devised to her for life by my said late brother James unto my said son Robert Barwise his heirs and assigns forever.

I give and bequeath unto my said servant Anne Messenger and to William son William Lightfoot of Wadeholm Hill each 20 shillings.

All the rest and residue of my messuages, tenements lands and hereditaments and real and personal estate whatsoever excepting the estate late my brother James' charged with the annuities and legacies above mentioned I do give and devise unto my said sons William and Robert and to their heirs and assigns forever as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and do make them joint executors of this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 4th. day of December 1769
