Carl Pearson's Page | |
Carl Pearson has been researching the Barwise family of Holm Cultram for a long time and has produced a putative link between the very earliest Barwise families, as mentioned in the Rev. Frank Swift's articles, and the Barwises of Penryn. That is, when connected to other works it appears to unify all the published Barwise genealogies and brings nearer the time when someone produces proof positive that all Barwis/e families stem from a common ancestor. The main argument of his work is published here in draft form. Please Click Here to down load it. Carl has allowed me to publish his work here and the huge body of data that he has collected and transcribed over the years. It starts with the records of Baptism, Marriage and Burial. Carl has extracted all Barwise entries from the IGI and stored them in Excel format. I have brought all 3 together as pages in one Excel document and have converted the individual pages to Lotus 1-2-3 format. I have also compressed them with ZIP so that you can download them from here:- I am hoping that before Christmas I have all of his files available here. Holm Cultram in Cumbria is the "home" Parish of the Barwise families and the ancient Parish was split into four Quarters. Carl has produced here a Map of the Parish showing these divisions and the main settlements in the Parish. If you have family from the area this is a uniquely helpful, though necessarily large tool. Notes on probable ancestors of the Barwis family of Cumbria, from the Pipe Rolls, Calendars of Rolls Patent and Close and other documents. These are necessary to establish the Barwise Unification theory. They exist here as a Word document and as that same document Zipped. Some Barwise wills is how Carl describes this file, frankly this document contains the vast majority of Barwise Registered Copy Wills. You may also download it as a Zipped. Barwis/e entries in the Cumberland Feet of Fines, these also support the Unification Theory and may be down loaded as a Zipped file. The 1664 Hearth Tax details the Barwis/e entries in that list as a Word document. It may also be down loaded as a zipped version. Carl has made copies of Surveys of the Manor of Holm Cultram which list who held which properties, as properties tended to pass from father down to eldest son these are excellent sources of Genealogy information. Available here sre the surveys for 1538, 1589 and 1604. The Protestation Returns. All males over the age of 18 had to swear allegiance to the Crown, and those who did so were listed in these returns. Carl has transcribed all Barwis/e entries for the return of 1641. A Zipped file of all these Surveys, Rentals and the Protestation Returns is available here. Langcake Wills. These are some registered copy wills of the Langcake family, and the same again Zipped |
